It has a smooth, semi-circular and partially bulging cap. It measures 15 to 30 cm in diameter. It is red-brown in color and has an irregular stem.

Ganoderma lucidum is often referred to as the mushroom of longevity or immortality. Prized in Asia for thousands of years by wealthy people, it is traditionally used to give a boost of vitality and fight against aging. Its anti-aging potential was allegedly discovered in 2730 B.C. by the Chinese herbalist Shen Nong.
Shen Nong, the author of the first book of traditional Chinese medicine, presented Ganoderma lucidum as the best of the superior medicinal plants. Ganoderma lucidum is now an essential part of traditional Chinese medicine.
