Slimming Tea After Pregnancy: When to Start and How to Gently Get Your Tummy Back
Your baby is here, and with them a body that has changed profoundly over nine months. A tummy that stays round, weight that won't shift, tiredness: wanting to “get your body back” is perfectly natural, and many of you ask us whether a slimming tea can help after pregnancy.
The honest answer: yes, a tea programme can support this stage, but not at just any time. The right timing matters as much as the method. In this article, we explain when a programme becomes possible, what to do first, and how to go about it gently, with no pressure and no unrealistic promises.

What happens in your body after giving birth
Your tummy doesn't flatten overnight, and that is completely normal. Several things are happening at once:
- The uterus takes about 6 weeks to return to its pre-pregnancy size
- The abdominal muscles have been stretched and may have separated down the middle (diastasis recti)
- The pelvic floor has been heavily strained and needs rehabilitation before any abdominal exercise
- Water retention linked to pregnancy hormones gradually subsides
- Fat reserves built up during pregnancy are partly used for breastfeeding
- Fatigue and lack of sleep disrupt appetite and encourage sugar cravings
People often say it takes “nine months to make a baby, and nine months to recover”. It's a good basis for being kind to yourself.
Slimming tea and breastfeeding: why you should wait
This is the most important point of this article: detox and slimming teas are not suitable while breastfeeding, including ours. There are several reasons:
- The caffeine in tea (oolong, green tea, pu-erh) passes into breast milk and can disturb your baby's sleep
- Senna and laxative plants are not recommended while breastfeeding
- Active plants in general lack safety data for breastfeeding women
- Energy needs are higher while breastfeeding: this is not the time to restrict
During this period, water, a varied diet and rest remain your best allies. For any herbal tea, even a “gentle” one, ask your midwife, doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Good to know
Breastfeeding uses part of the reserves built up during pregnancy. Many women notice their weight going down naturally during these months, without doing anything special. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it's one more reason not to rush.
4 steps before starting a programme
1. The postnatal check-up
It takes place 6 to 8 weeks after birth. It's the time to review your recovery with your doctor or midwife and talk to them about your plans for a tea programme.
2. Pelvic floor rehabilitation
Essential before returning to sport or doing any abdominal work. Doing classic sit-ups (crunches) on a pelvic floor that hasn't been rehabilitated can worsen leaks and prolapse.
3. Checking for diastasis
If your abdominal muscles have separated, a physiotherapist can suggest suitable exercises (deep core work, breathing, transverse muscle). It is often the real key to a tummy that “won't go down”.
4. The end of breastfeeding
A slimming or detox tea programme should only be started once your baby is fully weaned. If you are not breastfeeding, wait at least until your postnatal check-up and your doctor's go-ahead.
Which tea to choose after pregnancy
Once these steps are behind you, a tea programme can help you get back into a routine, reduce bloating and boost your energy. Our advice: start gently.
To start: a senna-free morning tea
Our Zero Belly Tea (Narcissus oolong, lotus, schisandra, tangerine peel, hawthorn) is the best first step: it targets bloating, with no laxative effect. Our Detox Tea (oolong, dandelion, nettle, ginger, peppermint, lemongrass) is the alternative if you also want to support drainage and energy. Nettle, rich in iron, is particularly interesting after pregnancy.
To go further: Teatox
After a few weeks, if your transit tends to be sluggish, Teatox adds the Evening Tea (pu-erh, lotus, hawthorn, senna, cassia) to support digestion and transit. Start with half a cup in the evening to test your tolerance.
For your tummy and skin: the Anti-Cellulite Set
The Anti-Cellulite Set combines Teatox with a silicone cup. Massaging your thighs, hips and buttocks helps smooth the skin. Avoid massaging your tummy during the first months and if you have diastasis.
After weaning: Zero Belly Tea for a lighter-feeling tummy
One cup every morning, senna-free, to gently help reduce bloating. Narcissus oolong from Fujian, lotus, schisandra, tangerine peel and Chinese hawthorn.

Diet
No restrictive diet: your body needs to recover. Focus on simple, filling meals (protein at every meal, vegetables, wholegrain carbs, healthy fats), and keep healthy snacks within reach for tired moments: fruit, nuts, yoghurt, hard-boiled eggs. Lack of sleep pushes you towards sugar, so it's best to plan ahead.
Hydration
1.5 to 2 litres of water a day, more if you are breastfeeding. Good hydration also helps eliminate end-of-pregnancy water retention.
Movement
Walking with the pram is the best activity in the first months: gentle, regular and good for your mood. After pelvic floor rehabilitation, you can gradually return to deep core work, yoga or postnatal Pilates.
Sleep
Easier said than done with a newborn. But sleeping when your baby sleeps, accepting help and delegating really make a difference: lack of sleep increases appetite and slows weight loss.
Patience
Give yourself a timeline of several months, not a few weeks. Compare yourself to yourself, not to “before/after” photos on social media.
When to see a professional
- A tummy that stays very prominent several months after birth (possible significant diastasis)
- Urinary leaks, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen
- Intense, persistent fatigue (iron deficiency is common after giving birth)
- Rapid, unexplained weight gain or loss
- Sadness, anxiety or loss of interest lasting more than two weeks
Your doctor, midwife or physiotherapist are there to support you. Don't hesitate to talk to them.

FAQ
Can you drink slimming tea while breastfeeding?
No. Slimming and detox teas contain caffeine and active plants that can pass into breast milk, and some contain senna, which is not recommended while breastfeeding. Our programmes should not be used by breastfeeding women. Wait until your baby is fully weaned.
How long after giving birth can you do a detox programme?
Not before your postnatal check-up (6 to 8 weeks after birth) and your doctor's go-ahead, and only after breastfeeding has ended if you breastfeed. Start with a senna-free tea, such as Zero Belly Tea or Detox Tea.
Why is my tummy still bloated months after pregnancy?
The most common causes are diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles), water retention, digestive bloating or fat reserves that go slowly. A physiotherapist can check for diastasis in a few minutes.
Can a tea get rid of your tummy after pregnancy?
Not on its own. A tea can help reduce bloating, support digestion and build a routine, but your tummy comes back mainly through rehabilitation (pelvic floor, deep core), a balanced diet, movement and time.
Which tea to choose to start after weaning?
A senna-free morning tea: Zero Belly Tea if bloating is your priority, or Detox Tea for drainage and energy. You can move on to the full Teatox programme after a few weeks if you wish.
Get your tummy back, at your own pace
After weaning and your doctor's go-ahead: Zero Belly Tea or Detox Tea to start gently, Teatox for a complete morning + evening routine.
